Fleas can be tracked in on your shoes and if your lease does not specify pest control you will probably have to do it the powder mentioned above is good but with young children they could get it on their hands, spray will dry and once it is dry it is safe for children, but first talk to your landlord, do they have exterminators come in monthly if they do ask them to add fleas to the problem as exterminators do not routinely spray for fleas.~
Shampooing a cat will only kill the fleas ON the cat at the time. Fleas only tend to hop on cats to feed so the only way to kill the fleas in your home to get the cat on a monthly spot treatment like Advantage or Frontline.
Don’t be cheap when it comes to flea control. The flea infestation will just get worse and worse and then be harder to get under control. And meanwhile your cat can become anemic from the flea bites or end up with tapeworm from ingesting a flea.
Flea collars don’t work. Take it off and get rid of it. Spray never works much either, discontinue it if you have ANY other flea product on the cat, you’re double dosing with pesticides in this stuff. That can be toxic to the cat’s liver.
One dose of Advantage is all that’s needed, it keeps fleas dead or off the cat for up to 6 weeks we found. And it doesn’t burn the cat’s neck like Frontline does.
I use Frontline with no problems. The cheapest place I’ve found it is on eBay from this seller. About 1/2 the price as the Vet. Very Reliable….
Maybe dog has secondary bacterial or fungal infection in the skin from the flea bites and so the hair loss is coincidental? See vet for antibiotic/anti-fungal medication.
Maybe the dog has allergic reactions to flea powder? Find a different one.
If your dog is prone to hair loss or sparse hair then consider giving Melatonin supplements (3mg capsule per day for medium sized dog). See vet if condition persists.
do they sell frontline flea removal for cats in pet stores? Or can I only get it at the vets?

Can any body tell me the best flea removal?
My friends cat has a flea problem, she is using the collar spot on treatment and flea spray. but the little blighters seem to be living nearest to the collar. it has had the problem for 4 or so weeks now. and have fetched off 8 this morning. short of shearing the thing we are just battling on.
